Enjoy this 100% pure, raw honey harvested locally in South Dakota. This pint-sized bottle is perfect for families and individuals who use honey in their cooking and in tea and coffee.
Natural honey is a pure food that never spoils. Often in commercial operations honey is superheated in order to help prevent crystallization and make it easier to pour into and out of jars or plastic bears. In the big bottling factories, the heated honey becomes very liquid and this helps make ultra-fine filtering happen. This overly-processed honey is stripped of beneficial pollen, nutrients, and key enzymes which make honey what it normally is…a natural superfood. We don’t kill or remove those nutrients in the honey.
It’s all there, the way the bees make it.
Our local honey is harvested and processed by Lakota youth entrepreneurs locally on the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Reservation in South Dakota.
Honey Lodge Youth Enterprise is a Program of Lakota Youth Development (LYD). This non-profit organization serves Rosebud Indian Reservation located in south-central South Dakota and presently includes within its recognized border all of Todd County. When Lakota Youth Development was facing a lack of funding for youth programs and also looking at the unemployment challenges facing Lakota youth, they turned to their own youth members to participate in creating solutions. The Mato Tasunka Wakinyan Okolakiciye, Bear Horse Thunder Youth Society was formed in 2011.
The Society developed the Lakota Honey Lodge as their own social enterprise. Youth gain skills in writing, computer and media technology, and fiscal management through this training program.
