SweetGrass coordinates hand sanitizer donation distribution for tribes

SweetGrass Trading Company recently worked with several organizations to distribute donated hand sanitizer to the Twelve Clans Unity Hospital in Winnebago and three other local tribes.

shift7, an innovation company located in Arizona, Washington, D.C., and New York, has helped tribal leaders to access donations of personal protective equipment and supplies such as masks, hand sanitizer, isolation gowns, warm clothes and more. As part of this effort, the company partnered with youth organization Earth Guardians and 1% for the Planet

The mission of Earth Guardians is to inspire youth to be effective leaders in the environmental, climate and social justice movements. 1% for the Planet connects companies who pledge to give 1% of their profits to a good cause with high-impact non-profit efforts.

The hand sanitizer sent to Winnebago was donated by All Good, a 1% for the Planet member company that makes plant-based skin care products, and measures their success “by environmental, social, and economic vitality.”

Donations to communities were prioritized by two factors: the population of tribal members and the rate of spread of COVID-19 in the community.

”Companies like SweetGrass have played a major role in distributing these donations,” Susan Alzner, chief of strategy and operations at shift7, said. “They helped make the distribution a smooth, organized process through the dedication of staff and equipment during a challenging time for so many.”

SweetGrass received a total of 4,800 eight-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer and 1,296 gallon bottles, and assisted in the distribution of the product to the hospital in Winnebago, as well as three other tribes: the Santee Sioux Nation, the Yankton Sioux Tribe and the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska.

Bottles of hand sanitizer were picked up and are being distributed by Richard Leasure (Yankton Sioux Tribe), Sarah Rowland (Omaha Tribe of Nebraska), and Mike Henry (Santee Sioux Nation).
