Four ways to “hack” your tea

Does the idea of drinking tea sound about as exciting as drinking hot water filled with grass? Don’t worry…you can use these simple tea hacks to improve your tea drinking experience and make it more enjoyable! Experiment with the ideas below until you find something you like. Get smoother tea using a common household item

Is your tea a little too bitter for your liking? Here’s a common hack you’ve probably never heard of! Tea is acidic, which can sometimes lead to a bitter taste, especially if you’ve used too many leaves. Add rinsed, crushed egg shells to your steeper to add alkalinity and cut back on the bitterness.

Fight allergies and add sweetness with local honey

Fight allergens and sweeten up your tea at the same time by adding a tablespoon of local honey to your brew! When you eat local honey, you ingest local pollen; this may help you become less sensitive to the pollen, leading you to experience fewer seasonal allergy symptoms! Are you one of the lucky ones who doesn’t suffer from allergies but still want to add some sweetness to your tea? Purchase a bottle of pure, raw honey from the Ioway Bee Farm.

Make things exciting by adding milk or milk alternatives

Yet another way to smooth out your brewed tea, adding dairy milk, oat milk, almond milk, or any other milk alternative can cut back on bitterness and enhance your tea drinking experience. As a rule of thumb, you should brew your tea leaves a little longer before adding milk so you don’t lose a lot of flavor. Keep in mind that milk will go best with teas that have nutty, chocolatey or spicy notes. Experiment and find what works best for you!

Add a slice of fresh fruit

A slice of fruit makes everything better and can enhance the presentation of your cup of tea. Add a slice of lemon, lime, strawberry, grapefruit, or even drop a few blueberries into your tea for an extra “kick” and a dose of vitamins and nutrients.
